Due to the important role of Power Water Reactor, it became of interest to improve the maneuverability of the control system and to redesign the actual controllers using model based control techniques. To this end, the physical system was identified from experimental data using a multi-input multi-output state-space description and a robust frequency-shaped LQG controller was design using a lower order model of the plant. A robustness analysis using the singularvalue approach and simulations are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller in achieving disturbance attenuation performance as well as in including an appropriate roll-off for robustness against neglected dynamics.
