Algorithms and software for bifurcation problems

Some of the basic algorithms incorporated in the AUTO software are recalled; in particular methods used for computing periodic solutions and their bifurcations. Recent work on closely related methods for the bifurcation analysis of nonlinear elliptic PDEs is also described.
