In this work we develop a coupled differential equation model of TCP and active queue management. We verify the accuracy of the model via ns-2 simulations and show significant simulation time speed ups. We then further develop the DE model to examine the problem of RED parameter setting from a control theory perspective. We highlight some fundamental limitations of RED from our studies and propose alternative schemes to address those limitations. We compare the performance of our schemes with RED via ns simulations.

Bio: Vishal Misra recently received his PhD in EE from University of Massachusetts, Amherst and is now a post-doc in the CS Department.
