Results and questions around Arnolds diffusion

We review some results and problems connected with the global instability of near-integrable Hamiltonian systems. We shall try to emphasize where the difficulties lie, what has been achieved and what remains to be explored, as well as the difficult interplay between "mathematical" and "physical" ideas.
