The pattern of multi-phase microstructures in materials is a key variable in setting its macroscopic mechanical properties. One of the main difficulty to study such system is the presence of interfaces between different phases. In this talk, I will consider diffusional evolution in multi-phase and anisotropic elastic media. In addition to studying the physical problems, I will focus on some challenging mathematical and computational issues related to the interface dynamics in microstructure evolution.
