On 18 May 2006, the Royal Society elected forty-four new Fellows and six Foreign Members from the fields of science, engineering and technology in recognition of their exceptional contributions to science, engineering and medicine. Professor Jerrold Marsden, Carl F. Braun Professor of Engineering and Control and Dynamical Systems, Caltech, was amongst those elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society, the UK national academy of science. Fellows are elected for their contributions to science, both in fundamental research resulting in greater understanding, and also in leading and directing scientific and technological progress in industry and research establishments.
