Abstract:
We derive a version of Routh reduction for discrete mechanical systems with
abelian symmetries. We also show how we can reduce the SPRK (symplectic
partitioned Runge-Kutta) algorithm and get an integration algorithm for the
reduced dynamics. We apply these reduction methods to the example of a
satellite in orbit about an oblate earth.
