Connecting to wireless access point
To access the wireless access point in the shop (110 Guggenheim) you connect manually to the ESSID "dgc". It is not broadcasting this ESSID so you must be aware of it and connect manually. For the encryption key, see the note on the bullentin board in the shop, next to the cabinet.
In linux, you use the command iwconfig to connect to a wireless access point. For more info, type
iwconfig --help
Example of configuring a wireless network card at eth1, as root (replace [encryptionkey] with the key you want to use):
iwconfig eth1 essid dgc key [encryptionkey]
If you have problems connecting (check ifconfig if you've been assigned an IP through DHCP). Try bringing down and up your interface (as root) with:
ifdown eth1 ifup eth1
(that should restart DHCP for that interface).
To see broadcasted ESSID (access points), run (assuming your wireless network card is eth1):
iwlist eth1 scan
It is also possible to connect dynamically using with the command (assuming your wireless network card is eth2):
dhclient eth2

Iain Cranston: Found this when looking for radios - might be well suited to wireless access into Alice's systems
