Accounts
In order to use Team Caltech's tools, you will need to set up four different accounts, listed below. For more information on the services provide by the accounts, follow the link at the beginning of the entry.
- Wiki account: just click "Log in / create account" in the upper right corner of this page to set-up a new account.
- If you don't see an option to create an account, we may have the feature turned off. In that case, send e-mail to mailto:help@gc.caltech.edu and request that a wiki account be set up for your. Please include your desired user name.
- You should use the same name for all of the accounts below. You are highly encouraged to use your ITS account name. If you want to use a different username, please keep it to less than 8 characters and use all lower case. (Note: the wiki will automatically capitalize the first letter of your username when it displays it, but you should still enter it in all lower case.)
- Grandchallenge account: you'll need to have an account set up on the main server for you to use many of the software tools and to access the source code. You can obtain an account by sending e-mail to mailto:help@gc.caltech.edu and requesting that an account be set up. Please include your wiki username in your request.
- Once your account is set up, you should create a file named .forward (notice the dot) in your home directory on gc.caltech.edu, and place in that file a line containing the address of an email account you want your email on grandchallenge forwarded to.
- Bugzilla account: register here.
- You need to wait until your grandchallenge account is set up before creating a bugzilla account
- Use the same username as your gc account, so that mail is sent properly
- Mailing list: add yourself to the implement mailing list. You should use the e-mail account that you normally send e-mail from as your address.
Whenever possible, please use your ITS account name as your username, so that it is easier to keep track of the various accounts attached to one person. If you don't have an ITS account (or really hate your username), please choose an account name that includes your last name (eg, murray or rmurray for Richard Murray).
Wiki
If you have never used a wiki before, you should probably start by looking at the Using Wiki Documentation page, which will give you the basics.
Once you have created your wiki account, you should update the following page:
- User Page - create a user page with information about you. You can do this by logging in to your wiki account and clicking on your username at the top of the page. Your user page should give a short description of who you are and list the project you are working on.
- Contact Info - create an entry for yourself on this page, filling in as much information as you can. Please make sure to put in your AIM handle, cell phone number, etc; this information is critical when we need to track you down. You'll see the format of the entries when you edit the section with the contact informatoin in it.
Software
All of the code for the project is stored in a source code reposititory and accessed via a program called subversion.
To get started coding on the project, follow these pages initally:
- Coding Getting Started - what tools to use and how
- DGC Subversion Structure - how files are stored in the subversion architecture
- Gazebo Stable Installation - contains the recommended way to run Gazebo
More information can be found at:
- Glossary over abbreviations and terms used in the project
- Instructions on how to run Gazebo simulations
- Team Caltech's coding and documentation standards (obey!)
