4 Xiaoliang (David) Wei Congesiton control algorithm and its variance for High Speed Long Distance Network

Abstract:
The talk will briefly review the history of network congestion, the efforts for congestion avoidance, and the basic ideas in congestion control. Design issues will be summarized. Different models, with different defects, will be introduced for analysis. Some data from recent measurements will show the current challenges and mysteries in this area.

Spring 2004

# Speaker Title of the talk Time Location
1 Xiaoliang (David) Wei Congestion Control: Algorithms and Models

Abstract:
After a very brief review on introduction and intuitions, I will focus on two main topics: How to design a congestion control algorithm and how to model the TCP congestion control. The first topic will break an algorithm into small components and discuss the design issues for these components. The second topic will cover different models, their sucessful stories and their sad stories. The talk will be concluded by a series of open problems.

7pm Jan 19th 125 Steele
2 Lijun Chen Quantum Mechanics and Measurement

Abstract:
I will talk about quantum computation and information. This sunday I will spent half time giving a brief introduction to quantum mechanics and measurement, half time in quantum information. If you guys are interested, I will give a second talk some time later to cover quantum computing.

8pm Feb 1st 125 Steele
3 Jiantao Wang ~ Feb 7th 125 Steele
4 Lun Li Feb 16th 125 Steele
