Manoshika Sandamali is a Sri Lankan child whom three of us (
Manoj, Varghese and I) sponsor
through
Plan USA. She is from
Siripuragama community in the southern district of Monaragala. The sponsorship takes care
of her education, food and also helps fund small projects for her community like
digging a well etc. We write to her quite frequently and get a reply from her father.
Infact, thanks to
Hema, we even managed to send her a letter in
Sinhalese and got a reply in Sinhalese along with the translation.
Its a nice experience to see how small things like these make a difference (hopefully!) in
people's lives far away.
Here is a sketch from her and
here is what she drew for us after we added some more color to her life by
gifting her crayon color pencils set two years back for
her birthday.
Ofcourse these arent real hairs :) They are standard stuff you get anywhere in
Sri Lanka. A cap with two plaited hair pieces on it.
Some updates as of Aug 9, 2006.
The letter from childreach reads that
she is going to school, is
an average student, can't yet write us a letter, has been healthy last
year etc.
