Overview

The Control and Dynamical Systems Alliance (CDSA) supports visits by US undergraduate and graduate students at Alliance member schools to Brazilian partner institutions for 3-6 months. The program consists of 4 weeks of study in language and applied mathematics in Rio de Janiero, followed by a 8-20 week project at one of the Brazilian partner institutions (UNICAMP, IMPA, UFRJ, LNCC).

Funding for travel and local expenses will be provided through the FIPSE program for those students who are accepted to participate. All students must take a 10-12 week introductory course in Portuguese (available at PCC, Princeton, and other sites) and will take a 4 week course in Portuguese in Rio de Janiero upon arrival in Brazil.

How to Apply

The summer study program is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled full time at Alliance member schools. Applications are due by 1 February for study beginning in the following summer (Jul). Applicants should submit the following information as a single package:

On the application form, you should indicate your course background, research interests, and desired duration of stay in Brazil. For the duration of stay, it is possible to stay for as little as 3 months or as long as 6 months, depending on the group that you are placed with. We will attempt to accomodate students desired length of stay to the extent possible, but this will depend in part of the group you are placed with.
