Everything Jerry

Jerrold (Jerry) Eldon Marsden lived from August 17, 1942 to September 21, 2010.  At the time of his passing a special “Remembrances” website was set up to record the fond memories of family, friends, and colleagues, and to honor and pay tribute to him.  This website also records the many obituaries. memorial eventsawards, publications, “in the news” articles, and his curriculum vitae & brief biographical sketches. Several memorials have been organized to honor his memory and celebrate his life and a memorial bench was dedicated to Jerry: “distinguished professor,  exceptional teacher, caring mentor, and friend to all.”

Jerry’s academic webpages will be archived but should remain accessible via his homepage URL at Control and Dynamical Systems, Caltech:

Jerry summarized his philosophy in his 1985 Graduation talk “Mathematicians and Mozart” at the University of California at Berkeley.  His motto:

respect and nurture creativity,

teach with devotion,

reach out to your fellow colleagues,

value honesty, and

uphold the highest standards.

"Jerry left behind his blueprints in his writings and we're still part of his crew. We'll just follow the blueprint."
