The John von Neumann Lecture:
Geometric and Computational Dynamics
Tuesday July 12, 2005
California Institute of Technology
The overarching themes of geometric mechanics and computational dynamical systems will be explained and illustrated with several examples. The examples include discrete mechanics of ideal fluids, developments and applications of Lagrangian coherent structures, the swimming of articulated bodies in fluids, and optimization using ideas from variational integrators and discrete mechanics.
