Abstract:
Subdivision surfaces are a very powerful concept, with built-in
multiresolution characteristics. We take advantage of the these
properties of subdivision surfaces in proposing a novel refinement
approach for adaptive computations using subdivision on 2-manifolds.
However, the refinement approach is much more general, and in fact we
propose it as a novel, general approach to local finite element mesh
refinement. Compatible nested approximation is achieved by
construction, and the method works for any number of spatial
dimensions and for almost any approximation order or element type.
