Abstract:  Parameter estimation and optimal control of large-scale differential-algebraic equation (DAE) systems is a challenging computational problem with many important applications. To solve this problem efficiently requires robust methods and software for solving nonlinear inequality constrained optimization problems, solution and sensitivity analysis for large-scale DAE systems, and algorithms for the dynamic optimization which make effective use of the problem structure. We will discuss our progress to date on the COOPT software and algorithms, with application to a problem in spacecraft trajectory optimization.
