Abstract:
We begin with a description of progress made on
multisymplectic integrators in the context of fluids and
elasticity (posters of Pekarsky and West) as well as in
model reduction and integration methods in mechanics and
specifically in elasticity (posters of Krysl and Lall).
The main portion of the talk, which represents joint
work with Kane, Ortiz and West, describes recent
advances in our understanding of the Newmark algorithm,
its variational and hence symplectic nature. In
addition, systems with forcing and dissipation are also
discussed in this context.
