Symplectic Integrators for Mechanical Systems with Symmetry

Abstract:  We propose generalizing recent results regarding the construction of sympletic integrators for mechanical systems with symmetry. In particular, we shall develop the discrete analogue of Abelian Lagrangian Reduction, or equivalently, Routh Reduction. In addition, we shall apply the construction procedure to the heavy Lagrangian top, and the heavy, rapidly-spinning, asymmetric top.
