NSF-KDI/IGPP Workshop
on

ACCURATE SIMULATION AND MODELING
OF PHYSICAL SYSTEMS

Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics
Scripps Institution of Oceanography

November 18-19, 1999

The IGPP workshop on accurate simulation and modeling of physical systems will be held on Thursday, November 18 and Friday, November 19 at the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics on the campus of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

The conference is open to registered participants only. There is no registration fee.

If you wish to attend, please pre-register for the workshop.

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together researchers in mathematics and geophysics which are working in the areas of numerical analysis, ODE/PDE theory, geometric mechanics, fluid dynamics, ocean modeling and spacecraft mission planning. The emphasis is on the interaction between novel developments in numerical algorithms, such as variational integrators, and new structure preserving models for fluids systems with applications to ocean modeling, as well as on optimal control algorithms with applications to mission design.

This workshop is an effort to portray the current state of the art and support the
NSF-KDI research program:
Structure Preserving Algorithms With Applications to Ocean Modeling.
