The model predicts that as the amount of cyclin mRNA added is increased the amplitude will decrease and the period will hold relatively constant as the oscillations are lost though a Hopf bifurcation. Leaving us with a metaphase like arrested state with high MPF activity. Several counterintuitive predictions are the following. As cyclin mRNA levels are reduced, the model predicts that maximum cyclin protein content as well as MPF activity would increase abruptly but the period of oscillations in the extract would increase only slightly. You add less message but more protein is expressed.
