Standard bifurcation theory tells us that this is the generic picture that is expected. Here we have a picture that can be found in any bifurcation textbook. As parameters alpha and beta are varied the saddle node curves meet to form a cusp. Inside the wedge there are three fixed points and outside there is only one.
