Notes:
When MPF was finally purified it was found to be composed of a periodic protein they called cyclin (disappears after each mitosis and then starts to accumulate during interphase) and a kinase called Cdc2 that remains at a constant level throughout the cell cycle. Here is a skeleton view of the cell cycle. Cyclin is synthesized from amino acids, it combines with Cdc2 to form inactive MPF. MPF is activated through a positive feedback loop. Active MPF causes the degradation of cyclin indirectly causing its own demise.
