How to maintain your CDS e-mail and web page after you leave Caltech

Your CDS account access is tied to your IMSS (access.caltech) account. When you leave Caltech, this access is turned off and you will lose access to the CDS machines (including web server, e-mail server, compute server and storage). IMSS normally culls account 6-12 months after you leave Caltech and you should receive an e-mail from IMSS indicating that your account in going away. If you would like to maintain any files stored on the CDS cluster, you have move them to another server before your IMSS account expires.

If you wish, we can forward your e-mail and redirect web pages to a new location. If you want to have this forwarding information set up, please send the following information to help@cds.caltech.edu, cc'd to your graduate advisor (so that he or she knows about the request):

  • Your CDS login ID (eg, 'user' if your CDS e-mail is user@cds.caltech.edu)
  • The e-mail address to forward mail sent to user@cds.caltech.edu
  • The URL to redirect requests sent to http://www.cds.caltech.edu/~user

If you have any questions, please send e-mail to Richard Murray (or the current option representative, if you are reading this in the far future).
