Discount Service Agreements

The Caltech Community is entitled to special services and rates for Car Rentals, Hotels, Shuttles, Airport Parking, and Moving Companies, as described in the Travel Service Agreements.

  • Car Rentals
    Before renting a car for Caltech Business, read the section on Rental Car Agreements with Hertz and Enterprise. Caltech Business rental agreements include free insurance. Sometimes lower discount rates for car rental are obtainable with other promotional agreements (e.g., AAA) when the driver has insurance coverage through his/her own personal auto insurance or credit card. Otherwise, take full advantage of the special rates with free insurance offered by Hertz/Enterprise under the Caltech agreement.

Local Transportation

Metro Day Pass
You may purchase a metro day pass for $5, which allows you to ride all metro buses and trains for an entire day.

Airport Transportation

There are several airports near Caltech (directions from the airport to Caltech):

Shuttle Service

Shuttle vans provide to and from service between the airport and the Caltech neighborhood. Special Caltech-only discounts may be available at campus locations or with a Caltech ID. Rates are subject to change; please check the Caltech travel service agreements for more information on the Shuttle Agreements. Caltech has several Super Shuttle stops on campus where you may be picked up or dropped off by Super Shuttle: Super Shuttle locations.

Shuttle reservations are always necessary, except when coming from the LAX airport to Caltech. To get a shuttle at the LAX airport, exit the baggage claim area and look for the orange overhead "SHARED RIDE VANS" sign.

Flyaway Bus

You can take the metro train from Lake Station in Pasadena to Union Station, and then take the non-stop Flyaway bus directly to the LAX airport. Lake Station is at 340 N Lake Ave, where Lake Avenue reaches the freeway. The trains run every fifteen minutes, and it takes about 30 minutes to reach Union Station from Pasadena. A one-way ticket between Lake Station and Union Station is about $1.25 and you can buy tickets from a ticket machine at any station. When you arrive at Union Station, you can walk to the buses area and buy a ticket on the flyaway bus for about $4. The flyaway bus will take you directly to the LAX airport in about 45 minutes.
