CDS 270-1 -- Spring 2010
Third Term

Advanced Topics in Systems and Control:
Adaptive Control

Prerequisites:
Linear systems and control, basic understanding of nonlinear dynamics,
Lyapunov stability theory, numerical methods, MATLAB.

Course Description

CDS 270-1. Advanced Topics in Systems and Control: Adaptive Control, Units 2-0-7.

Course Outline

The main goal of this course is to give a self-contained mathematical treatment of robust adaptive control theory and its current state of the art. Throughout the course, aerospace applications of robust adaptive control for uncertain dynamical systems (such as unmanned aircraft and guided munitions) will be presented.

Grading
Pass/Fail
Lectures
Friday 10 AM - 12 Noon; 114 Steele
Instructor
Eugene Lavretsky
Office hours: by appointment

Announcements

  • The first lecture will be on April 2, 2010 in 114 Steele at 10 AM.

Project

The course project will consist of a design, analysis, and simulation of an adaptive controller for a nonlinear dynamical system. Course projects will be assigned no later than the 4th week of classes from a list of available topics. Project reports will consist of both written and oral portions. The written portion of the report should be a detailed description of the selected topic using the terminology and notation of the class. Reports are due the first day of finals week. Students will present their work in class, during the last week of the term.
