A DVD-RW drive is located on the computer named "Lughaid" in room #133. Please see the sysadmin in room 135A for blank DVD+R media. These are also available at Wired in the bookstore.
- The DVD-burning process will be more successful if the files to be burned are copied down to the local hard drive. /dvd on lughaid is reserved for this purpose and is writable by anyone with an account. To copy down your files from a directory named "myfiles" in your home directory, use these commands:
- cd /dvd
- rsync -av ~/myfiles .
This will create a local directory called /dvd/myfiles.
- Launch the DVD creation software by running "k3b" at a prompt or by going into the "Red Hat" menu, choosing "Sound & Video" and clicking on the k3b icon.
- Click on "New DVD Project" in the lower panel. Browse to /dvd in the panels on the top of the k3b window. Drag and drop the files into the lower panel to include them in your project.
- When you are ready to create the DVD, click on the burn..." button in the far lower right corner of the k3b window.
