CDS: Visitor Computer Access
Visitor Computer Access
Visitors to CDS can gain access to the computing facilities in four main ways.
- First, the PCs in room 133 can be used as is. See the PC information page for information on login instructions.
- Second, visitors with laptops can plug them into any free ethernet port in CDS to access the CDS printers and the internet. The laptop must be set to use DHCP to obtain its ethernet address -- Windows does this by default. For wireless access an ITS account is needed to log into the network.
- Third, short term visitors (a week or less) can obtain a guest account for use on the unix workstations. These accounts have names like guest1 and are only temporary. To obtain such an account, email help@cds.caltech.edu at least a couple of days before the account is needed, and we will give you a username and password. In your email please include the following information:
- Visitor's full name
- Expected dates of arrival and departure
- Fourth, longer term or recurring visitors will be given unix standard accounts. Once again, email help@cds.caltech.edu a couple of days before the visitor arrives and we will give you a username and password. In your email please include the following information:
- Visitor's full name
- Preferred username
- Expected date of arrival
Accounts can also be provided for spouses and significant others of CDS people. Please email help@cds.caltech.edu for more information if you would like such an account. Please do this rather than sharing accounts.
