CDS 270-1 -- Spring 2006
Third Term

System Identification

Prerequisites:
Linear systems and control, basic understanding of nonlinear dynamics,
Lyapunov stability theory, numerical methods, and MATLAB.

Course Description

CDS 270-1. System Identification. Units 3-0-6.

Course Outline

The main goal of the course is to give a self-contained mathematical treatment of System Identification (ID) theory and methods, with applications to aerospace, robotics and biology. Throughout the course both off-line and on-line system ID methods will be presented. Effectiveness of the design methodology will be demonstrated using MIMO static maps as well as dynamical systems in continuous and discrete time domains. Simulation examples (using MATLAB) will be given throughout the course. Students will be asked to run a course project (system ID related) using models of their choice. A formal report documenting project results is due the week before the semester ends. In addition, each student will be required to present his /her results in class, (last week of the semester).
