Office Hours: (124 Steele) Tues and Thurs, 3-4

Office Hours: (11 Steele) Monday, 3-5

Course Description:

CDS 140b is a continuation of CDS 140a. Most of the course (80%) will cover basic tools from nonlinear dynamics, such as perturbation theory, method of averaging, bifurcation theory, global bifurcation and chaos, and Hamiltonian systems.

Besides studying standard textbook examples (van der Pol, Duffing, and Lorenz equations), for some of the course (20%) we will analyze and design new classes of space mission trajectories, applying basic tools of dynamical systems, such as periodic and quasi-periodic orbits, invariant manifolds, homoclinic and heteroclinic connections, symbolic dynamics and chaos.
